This Friday, 20th March, is International Day of Happiness and this year’s theme, 'happiness in the digital age', couldn’t be more relevant. The spaces we spend time in online have a real impact on how we feel, often more than we realise.
But the good news is this: we have more control over our digital environment than we think. With a few small shifts, our online world can become a place that uplifts rather than drains us.
Here are three quick things that I'm going to do:
1. Unfollow What Doesn’t Feel Good
If an account leaves you feeling flat, not enough, or quietly overwhelmed, that’s reason enough to let it go. Curating your feed isn’t negative, it’s self-respect. Your attention is valuable, and you deserve to spend it on things that support your wellbeing.
2. Favourite What Lifts You Up
Notice the accounts that make you smile, feel inspired, or more like yourself and prioritise them. Whether it’s creativity, humour, style, or honesty, these are the voices worth bringing closer. It’s a simple shift, but it changes the tone of your entire scroll.
3. Create a ‘Happy Folder’
Start saving screenshots of things that spark joy: kind messages, outfits you love, quotes, moments, memories. On days when the digital world feels overwhelming, this becomes our own personal reminder of what feels good, real, and grounding.
At Single Swan, this idea is woven into everything we do. Free Your Sparkle is about reconnecting with what lights us up and gently letting go of what doesn’t, both online and offline.
This International Day of Happiness, let's think of our digital space as something we can shape with intention.
Less noise.
More joy.
Less comparison.
More US.
Because happiness in the digital age isn’t about logging off completely, it’s about creating an environment, both on and off screen, where you can truly Free Your Sparkle.
I'd love to know what you think.
