How Jim Kwik’s 3 M Morning Routine Helped Me Beat Founder Burnout and Chronic Illness Fatigue

How Jim Kwik’s 3 M Morning Routine Helped Me Beat Founder Burnout and Chronic Illness Fatigue

Let’s be honest. I used to wake up and immediately do something incredibly stupid: check my emails. Nothing like an urgent 3 a.m. refund request to really set the tone for the day, right?

But then, like a gift from the universe—or probably just the algorithm—I stumbled across Jim Kwik’s 3 M’s: Meditation, Movement, and Motivation. And honestly, they’ve been a quiet revolution in my mornings.

I'm a female founder (hello chaos), navigating chronic illness (hello fatigue), and attempting not to keel over from overwhelm on a daily basis. These 3 tiny tweaks? Game. Changers.

1. Meditation: Aka Sitting Quietly and Trying Not to Freak Out

Meditation sounds very serene. It’s not. It’s basically me sitting on the edge of the bed, breathing like I’ve just read my credit card statement, and trying not to spiral into a list of things I forgot to do in 2017.

But here’s the thing—it works.

Just five minutes of stillness before the world gets loud helps me remember that I’m a person, not a walking task list. And on flare-up days, when my body feels like it’s been hit by a bus made of glitter and guilt, it’s the kindest way to begin.

2. Movement: Not Lycra, Not Loud, Just… Movement

I used to think movement had to be dramatic. Spin classes. Burpees. Shouting. The works. Now? Movement is just moving—gently—so my body remembers it exists. It doesn't have to be very long, just enough to make a difference.

Sometimes it’s tricep dips. Sometimes it’s a walk to the kettle. Occasionally, I just fling my arms around like I’m trying to land a plane. It all counts. Because after years of chronic illness, I’ve learned that what matters most is showing up for your body, not trying to beat it into submission.

Also, I’m not putting on Lycra unless there’s an emergency or a fire drill. Full stop.

                                              Leg warmers optional ;)

3. Motivation: Finding a Reason Not to Hide Under the Duvet

I used to think motivation was something that magically appeared after coffee. It’s not. It’s something you build. Like IKEA furniture. But with less swearing (sometimes).

Jim suggests feeding your brain something inspiring. So now, instead of doom scrolling and getting imposter syndrome, I start the day with a quote, a podcast, or a reminder of why I started my business in the first place: to help women feel strong, seen, and not squashed into sausage-skin activewear.

Motivation doesn’t mean I leap out of bed like a Disney princess. It just means I remember I have a mission. And pants. And that’s enough.

LOVE this book by Donna Ashworth- full of beautiful and meaningful poems

So, Does It Actually Work?

Yes. Not in a unicorns-and-rainbows way, but in a real, helpful, “I can do this without weeping into my cereal” kind of way.

  • Meditation gives me space.

  • Movement gives me energy (or at least the illusion of it, which is fine).

  • Motivation gives me direction.

As a female founder who lives with chronic illness, I don’t need perfect mornings. I need gentle ones. And these 3 M’s? They’ve made me feel a little more in charge, a little less overwhelmed, and a lot more… me.

So if you’re out there, knackered and unsure how to start the day without screaming—try one of the M’s tomorrow. Just one. No pressure.

Start where you are. In your dressing gown. Hair like a hedge. Heart full of hope.

You’ve got this.

Let me know what tips you have.
